In the LDS faith, after death what happens?

I've been looking into Mormonism but am confused about what the view is after death. I read that there are three kingdoms you can go to highest being Celestial, each depending on your life on earth. But i also read that there is the possibility of becoming like God since we are his children. I am confused on how they come together, are they one in the same, or did i read some false infromation?
