Bali, Penang, Singapore area, Southern Thailand -- Where to spend a weekend?

Any ideas for a single (straight) guy in his 40's to spend a wekend in SE Asia during a business trip? Places to stay, things to do, "nightlife," etc. I've heard there are beautiful resort areas, but want to hear from someone that's been there!
