HOMING PIGEONS babies DYING ??

My husband had homing pigeons as a teenager in Europe and has recently set up a large cage with about 12 pigeons in South/East Qld problem is most of the babies are dying within a couple of weeks of being born. Does anyone have any hints on why this might be happening and how to prevent it in the future? Your help will be much appreciated.
